Memorial

Betty Williams passed away on January 27, 2018 at the age of 91. She grew up in Marion, Iowa graduating from Marion High School in 1944. Her first job was in the Killian’s Tea Room in downtown Cedar Rapids where she worked alongside two of her sisters.

Betty married the love of her life, Guy Williams, when he returned from service in WWII. She and Guy gave their children the life Betty could only dream of as a child.

Betty was always happiest at home. For many years, she ran a daycare within her home treating all of the children as if they were her own.

When she wasn’t working, she relished entertaining, preparing dinners that overflowed with far more food than all could eat. These meals were always served on her china, one of her prized possessions. Besides being an amazing cook, she excelled at baking. She made pies with the flakiest of crusts, baked breads and donuts, croissants and cream puffs.

Learning to sew, Betty made her daughter’s clothes, her husband’s sport coats, and pleated, lined draperies for their home. She also constructed all kinds of stuffed dolls and toys that she gave away to every child she knew. She took cake decorating classes and for many years provided wedding, graduation, birthday, and holiday cakes for family and friends.

Above all, family was the most important thing to Betty. She dearly loved each of her brothers and sisters and cherished her children and grandchildren. Betty will be greatly missed for her feisty spirit, her laughter, and her generosity.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, parents Edward and Theresa Corum, siblings Lester Boner, Ida Mae Goyer and Veronica McGee.

Left to cherish Betty’s memories are her children: Guy Williams Jr. (Marlene), Susan Benton (Mike), Brett Williams; grandchildren: Carmen Covington (Brad), Angela Phillips (Aaron), Adam Benton (Melissa), Natalie Taylor (Jason) and 7 great grandchildren. Also surviving are her siblings: Leona Morris, Stanley Corum, Richard Corum (Phyllis), Howard Corum and Nancy Gruwell (Gary).

A visitation in Betty’s honor will be held on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 from 5 to 8 P.M. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. A funeral service will be on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at 11 A.M. at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. A committal service will immediately follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
