Memorial
Kathryn E. Rath, 78, of Cedar Rapids passed away on Saturday, February 10, 2018. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 16th, from 4pm to 7 pm at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Services will be held on Saturday, February 17th at 11 am, followed by a luncheon at Lovely Lane United Methodist Church. Burial will be held at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Cedar Falls.
Memorial donations may be made to HACAP, or Lovely Lane United Methodist Church.
Kay Rath was born on January 16, 1940 to Alexander Thompson and Anne (Pickett) in Des Moines. She was united in marriage to Ronald Rath in 1963, and they enjoyed 51 years of marriage.
Kay received her education at Iowa State Teachers College (BA). She began her career in education substituting, and then taught kindergarten and first grade for many years at Hiawatha Elementary.
She is survived by her children, Tom (Francine) of Iowa City and John (Kathy) of Waterloo; four grandchildren: Evan, Megan, Andrew and Jennifer; one sister-in-law Rosalie Thompson (Hot Springs Village, AR); and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and one brother.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Kay will be greatly missed for her kindness and caring toward everyone she knew.
