John Davis Rector, 73, of Cedar Rapids died on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at the Meth-Wick Community. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 AM, with a graveside service at 11:30 AM, on Monday, February 19, 2018 at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
John was born on February 4, 1945 to Jack and Alice Hauswirth Rector in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He graduated from Washington High School in 1963. John attended the University of Iowa and graduated in 1979. John worked for the United States Postal Service in Iowa City, from 1970 to 2009. John was a gifted writer who wrote poetry for family and friends. He also enjoyed a variety of music and was a passionate fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes.
John’s family includes: three siblings, William Rex Rector of Arlington, Texas, Edward Lee (Cynthia) Rector of Santa Fe, New Mexico and Barbara Ann (Terry) Ohnstad of Littleton, Colorado, his nieces and nephews; Kyle (Jennifer) Ohnstad of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, Crela Frye (Scott) of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Erin (Kynton) Chan of Aurora, Colorado, Hayden (Kristina Martinez) Rector and Stuart Rector, both of Santa Fe, New Mexico.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
