Memorial

Carolyn W. Koopman, 79, of Marion, went to Heaven to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday February 6, 2018 at Westridge Care Center. Services: 1:00 p.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, where a visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m.  Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Carolyn was born on March 7, 1938 in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Frederick and Ruth (Buck) Petersen. She married James L. Koopman on November 18, 1978 in The Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Carolyn was a teacher and a member of Gospel Light Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and baked the best ever apple pie, which she baked for many of her family and friends. Carolyn  also loved painting, her piano and traveling the world with Jim. 

Survivors include her brother, Frederick Jr. (Kathy) Petersen of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, her sister, Ruthann Sedrel of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, her sister-in-law, JoAnne (Merlyn)  Schanbacher of Newhall, Iowa, her nieces and nephews; Amy (Phillip) Niehaus of Martel, Iowa, Tami (Doug) Theobald of Mt. Vernon, Iowa, Holly (Doug)  Thompson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Steven (Tasha) Petersen of Lisbon, Iowa, Tracy Sedrel of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Kelly Sedrel of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Diana (Daniel) Slaughter of Wausau, Wisconsin, Brian (Kristen) Schanbacher of Newhall, Iowa, Chris (Mike) Karr of Newhall, Iowa. Also surviving are many great nieces, nephews, great- great nieces and great great nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, James, her parents, brothers-in-law, Don Sedrel and Steven Cope and sister-in-law, Judy Cope.  John 11 : 25,26  “ I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and who ever lives and believes in me will never die.”
