Barbara Ann Ohrt, 75, of Cedar Rapids, entered her heavenly home on Thursday, September 7, 2017.

Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 13th, 2017 at Kenwood Park United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Michael Metz.  Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.  Interment will take place at Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Barb was born on November 13, 1941 in Belmond, Iowa to Donald and Clara (Holm) Beenken.  She graduated from Belmond High School.  Barb was united in marriage to Carl E. Ohrt on May 15, 1992.  Barb loved the Lord and made Him the foundation of her life.  She was a member of Kenwood Park United Methodist Church.  

Barb was a beloved teacher at Rockwell Day Care for 20 years. She impacted many young children and coworkers.  In her free time, she enjoyed square dancing with her husband as a member of Rapid Eights Square Dance.  She enjoyed Bible study, gardening, doing crossword puzzles, baking, cooking, and attending her grandchildren's activities.  Barb was a devoted and wonderful wife, mother and grandmother whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.

Barb is survived by her husband of 25 years, Carl of Cedar Rapids; son, Kent (Jane) Harms of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Lori (Jeff) Queck of Sanborn, IA; step-sons, Ron (Julia) Ohrt of Marshalltown, IA; and Dan (Carrie) Ohrt of Cedar Rapids; step-daughter, Julie (Josh) Rich of Marion; 19 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; a sister, Velmie Sobotka of Roberts, WI; a brother, Alan (Dixie) Beenken of Clarion, IA;  half-sisters, Betty Beenken of Des Moines, IA, Denise Beenken of Des Moines, IA; Donna (Randal) Dittmer of Colfax, IA; Cathy (Greg) Hand of Leola, PA; and half-brother Rick Beenken of Des Moines; brother-in-law, Mearl (Alice) Ohrt of Melvin, IA; sisters-in-law,  Becky Menster (Mel Eilers) of Monticello, IA; and Penny (Mike) Haag of Sanborn, IA.

Preceding her death were her parents, step-parents Edward and Florence Ohrt, brothers Russell, Donald Jr, and Roger Beenken, sisters Marvella Overbeck and Delphine Watermiller.

We deeply appreciate your expressions of sympathy, prayers, and love.  The family of Barbara Ohrt.  A special thanks to Mercy Hospice for the extra comfort and peace they gave her during this time.
