Ronald B. Basquin, 80, of Hiawatha, passed away Saturday, November 4, 2017 surrounded by his loving family at St Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids after an extended illness.

Services will be held at 10:30 am Friday, November 10, 2017, at St Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Hiawatha.  Visitation will be from 4 pm to 7 pm on Thursday, November 9, 2017, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.  Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service at church on Friday.  Burial will be at Rowley Cemetery, Rowley, Iowa.  

Ronald Boyd Basquin was born on August 10, 1937 in Buchanan County, Iowa to Boyd and Lela (Sheppard) Basquin.  Ronald was the oldest of five children, and graduated from Rowley Consolidated High School in 1955.  He was a proud “Rowley Rocket”.

On August 27, 1958, he married Rita Michael from Walker, Iowa.  In 1958 he enlisted in the United States Army, proudly serving until 1961.  Ronald worked as a lab technician and an electrical engineer for Rockwell Collins for over 35 years.  He was a long-time member of St Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Hiawatha.  Ronald enjoyed going to his grandchildren’s sporting events, meeting friends for coffee, watching sports on TV, maintaining an immaculate yard and house, and exercising at the recreation center.  His favorite sport was baseball, both coaching and playing.  

Survivors include his wife, Rita Basquin, of Hiawatha, Iowa, daughters Pam (Jim) Zelle, of Marion, Iowa, Brenda (Matt) Westphalen, of Waukesha, Wisconsin, Lee (Dave) Smith, of Des Moines, Iowa, and son Steve (Susan) Basquin, of Hiawatha, Iowa.  Grandchildren, Sarah and Allison Zelle, Aaron and Brooke Westphalen, Andrew, Payton, Avery, and Logan Basquin.  Sisters Linda Hosford, of Plainfield, Illinois, Janice (Dick) Wilkinson, of Naples, Florida, and Patricia (Robert) McNamara, of Jupiter, Florida.  Sister-in-law Marilyn Basquin, of Independence, Iowa, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, brother John (Jack) Basquin, and brother-in-law Ronald Hosford.
