Patricia Anne Balk, aged 70, of Marion died on Saturday, November 4 at Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House, after a brief struggle with cancer in Hiawatha. Patricia was born July 30, 1947, in Shellsburg, IA, the daughter of Elmer (Barney) and Edna O’Shannon.
Patricia is survived by her children, Christina and her husband Jason Cline; a son Michael and wife Adrienne Balk, and three grandchildren Paige, Zachary and Liam. She is also survived by her longtime partner, Dale Schafer.
In addition to raising two children, Patricia dedicated herself to her vocation as a Head Start teacher. Mentoring at risk children brought her joy and satisfaction.
A memorial service will be held at Ascension Lutheran Church in Marion on Monday, November 20th, 2017 at 5:00 p.m., with visitation starting at 4:00 p.m. at the church. Entrusted with the arrangements were Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
