Charles John Stark Jr. 89, of Cedar Rapids died Friday November 10, 2017 after an extended illness. Memorial Mass: 10:30 AM on Saturday December 2, 2017 at St. Matthew Catholic Church where friends may visit with the family after 9:30 AM on Saturday. Rev. Steve Garner and Rev. Mark Osterhaus will officiate. Charles donated his body to the University of Iowa for medical research. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, daughter Teresa (Dennis) Hoelker of Cedar Rapids; son James (Tece) of Richmond, Texas; son Richard (Lori) of Chicago, Illinois; daughter Catherine Hunt of Rochester, Minnesota; and John (Lesa) of New London, Missouri. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his aunt Mary Feuerer and his son Charles Stark III in 2010.

Charles was born on February 18, 1928 in Racine, Wisconsin, the son of Charles Sr. and Rose Feuerer Stark. He graduated from Loras College in 1951 and from the University of Iowa in 1957 with a master degree in education. He married Dorothy Fier on March 31, 1951 in Clinton, Iowa. Charles taught middle school math and science for 35 years, retiring in 1984.

Charles was a faithful member of St. Matthew Catholic Church and proudly served in the Army during WWII. He enjoyed reading, sports and family activities. He will forever be remembered for being a wonderful and caring husband, father, grandfather and friend whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
