Dorrance John Brady, 85, of Cedar Rapids passed away on Thursday, June 15, 2017 at Hallmar Residential Care surrounded by his loving family. Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  A visitation will be from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 20th with a rosary beginning at 8:15 a.m. at the church.  A graveside service will immediately follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery where military rites will be accorded. 

Dorrance was born on July 5, 1931 the son of J. Edward and Anna (McCrea) Brady on the family farm near Monticello, Iowa. He served in the Marines from 1951-1953 and was chosen to drive the Iowa float for Dwight D. Eisenhower’s Inauguration Parade.  Upon his return from the service, he began working for Iowa Electric and retired from there in 1994.  While at Iowa Electric, he met and married the love of his life Shirley Matthews in 1956.  Shirley and Dorrance were Charter Members of All Saints Church.  They shared many memories together until her passing in 2013. They enjoyed traveling, spending time with family and friends, and especially enjoyed time with their grandchildren.  

Left to cherish Dorrance’s memories are his children, two sons, Mark (Janice) Brady, Scott (Tammie) Brady both of Cedar Rapids, daughter Jane (Joe) Kipper of Lenexa, KS. six grandchildren Nicklaus, Kayla, Rachel Brady all of Cedar Rapids, Stephanie Brady of Des Moines and Matthew and Ryan Kipper of Lenexa, KS.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, James and Paul, and his wife. 

Memorials may be directed to All Saints Catholic Church, the Mercy Medical Center Foundation or the Alzheimer’s Association.
