Sally Jean Gilbertson, 84, of Robins, died Sunday, July 16, 2017 at the Rehabilitation Center of Lisbon. Funeral Service: 1:00 pm Saturday, July 22, 2017 at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. A visitation will be held on Friday, July 21, 2017 from 5-8 pm at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Sally was born April 8, 1933, the daughter of Oscar and Inez (Merrill) Byam, in Marion, Iowa. During grade school and high school, she was active in music, piano, and cheerleading. She was married to Gordon E. Gilbertson on July 25, 1959 in the Little Brown Church. He passed away in 2002. Sally worked for the Marion YMCA as an aquatic supervisor and a swimming instructor for over 50 years. She was an AAU swimming judge during periods of her children’s swimming careers. Sally was a member of First Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids since 1959 and previously First United Methodist Church in Marion. She was also a member of the Red Hat’s Society, Woman’s Club, Beta Sigma Phi Sororiety and the Silver Sneakers. Sally enjoyed many hobbies including; bowling, swimming, reading, walking, traveling, knitting, and spending time with her grandchildren. 

Survivors include her four children, Lorie (Keith) Faulkner, Greg Gilbertson, Rick (Dennette Wheeler) Gilbertson, Sandra Gilbertson; nine grandchildren, Grant Moody, Trevor Gilbertson, Hunter Gilbertson, Connor Gilbertson, Chase Gilbertson, Cameron Gilbertson, Ashley Wheeler, Ben Wheeler, Sarah Wheeler; one sister, Karen (Joe) Brown; several nieces and nephews; two sisters-in-law, Janice (Richard) Lund, Jill (Carl) Gaster; one brother-in-law, Gary (JoeAnne) Gilbertson, and loving pet, Henry. 

She was preceded in death by her husband; and parents. 

A special thank you to Sally’s friends and the staff at Keystone Place, Dr. Jennifer Beck and staff, Dr. Chirantan Ghosh and staff, Dr. Wook Lee, Essence of Life Hospice Staff, especially a special thanks to Molly Fliss, and the entire staff of the Rehabilitation Center of Lisbon for all the loving care Sally received during her stay.
