Richard C. Blood, 80 of Cedar Rapids died Friday July 7, 2017 at St. Luke’s Hospital. Per Richard’s request there will be no public service or visitation. Private services will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Susan, three sons Rick (Sallie) of Keokuk, Steven (Deb) of Palo and Gregory (Jeanice) of Cedar Rapids; a daughter Sarah (James) Ashby of Marion; and two sisters Sally Herman of Central City and Deb (Steve) Miller of Merritt Island, Florida. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Bob and a sister Marilyn Douglas. 

Richard was born on June 16, 1937 in Harrison, Michigan the son of Richard R. and Meta Gifford Blood and attended Roosevelt High School. He married Susan M. Kohl on June 11, 1955 in Cedar Rapids.

Richard was a welder at Rockwell-Collins for over 39 years, retiring in 1991.

He was a life member of the NRA, the IBEW, and proudly served in the National Guard for many years attaining the rank of First Sergeant. Richard was a real outdoorsman. He enjoyed, hunting, fishing, especially with his sons and friends and riding his motor cycle. Richard was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.

A memorial fund has been established in Richard’s name.
