James “Jim” Carnahan, 50, of Cedar Rapids, passed away suddenly Monday, July 24, 2017 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics following a brain aneurysm rupture.

Memorial services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 29, 2017 at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories officiated by Pastor Rick Gail.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Friday evening at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories Stateroom.  Interment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Jim was born October 14, 1966 in Cedar Rapids to William “Bill” and Carol (McNabb) Carnahan.  He graduated from Kennedy High School in 1985.  He later attended Kirkwood Community College and received certification as an Iowa Certified Assessor.  Jim was united in marriage to Deanna Latuska on May 7, 1988.  To this union, two children were born.

Jim held his first job at age twelve as a carrier for the Gazette.  He later worked at Bishop’s, Waldo’s, Farmstead, the Cedar Rapids Airport, and the Linn County Assessor’s Office.  He was currently working at Vanguard Appraisals Inc.

Jim enjoyed camping, and watching Nascar races and James Bond movies.  He was an animal lover.  He was involved for many years as a Boy Scout Leader, and was currently the treasurer for Troop 29.  He especially enjoyed helping the scouts with weekend camping trips.

He loved spending time with his family, friends, and his special dog companion, Arrya.

Jim’s joy was making others happy.  His smile was infectious and a complaint from him was rare.  Jim was an extremely giving and generous man; he chose organ and tissue donation so that the gift of his life may continue.

He is survived by his wife, Deanna; children Justin (Kelsey) Carnahan and Stacy (Zach) Mickelson; parents Bill and Carol Carnahan, all of Cedar Rapids; siblings Tammy (Pete) Goedken of Hiawatha; Bill (Carrie) Carnahan of Marion; and Chad (Jaclyn) Carnahan of Cedar Rapids.

Also surviving are his mother-in-law Nancy Latuska; brother-in-law Darren Latuska, both of Cedar Rapids; sister-in-law Tammy (Lynn) Schrader of Troy, Missouri; and many special aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Jim was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Gene and Dorothy McNabb; paternal grandparents, Harold and Aletha Carnahan; father-in-law Arnold “Arnie” Latuska; aunt Anita Dillon; and uncle Gary Carnahan.

A memorial in Jim’s name has been established.
