Jack Bernard Opdahl, 84, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, July 9, 2017 at Lantern Park Nursing & Rehab Center in Coralville. Memorial Service: 1:00 pm Saturday, July 15, 2017 at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.
Jack was born January 24, 1933, the son of Ernest and Freda (Jacob) Opdahl, in Ewart, Iowa. He graduated from West Waterloo High School in 1951. Jack served with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was married to Donna Jean Higgins on September 14, 1958 in Des Moines. She died in 2005. They lived in Des Moines and Iowa City before moving to Cedar Rapids in 1969. Jack worked for N.W. Bell Tel. Co. and U.S. West Comm., before retiring in 1992 with forty-one years of service. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
Surviving to honor his memory are his two sons, David Opdahl, Kent Opdahl; two grandchildren, Jenna (Garrett) Dickinson, Brett (Lydia) Opdahl; two great-grandchildren, Dempsey Dickinson, and Finley Opdahl.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; sister, Shirley Zimmerman and her husband, Frank.
