Dorothy C. Wilson of Royal Oak, Michigan, died Thursday January 5, 2017 after a brief illness.  Services: 3:00 p.m. on Saturday at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, where a visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m.  The Rev. Kate West will officiate. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

She was born December 5, 1925 in rural Nashua, Iowa the daughter of William and Martha Bierschenk. She graduated from high school and attended an Airline Flight Attendant School in Omaha, Nebraska. 

Dorothy Bierschenk married Dean Berka on April 15, 1955 in Nashua, Iowa and three children were then born - Mark, Sheree and Rick where they resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Her husband, Dean, passed October 23, 1996.  Dorothy remarried a dear family friend, Thomas Wilson of Royal Oak, Michigan on November 15, 2002.

Dorothy was an avid reader of mystery and spy novels.  She was quite adventurous, traveling to New York City in her younger years before marrying husband Dean, to do her passion – SHOPPING. Dorothy was an up-to-date gal with her fashion, makeup and hairstyles into her 90’s! 

Dorothy and Dean were very dedicated to their family, taking care of their son Mark who was born with Cerebral Palsy, Sheree and Rick.   Dorothy and Tom enjoyed traveling, going out to dinner and sharing quality time together.  They would make trips to Iowa to see family/friends, visiting Sheree in New Jersey and Rick in Arizona.

Dorothy is survived by her husband Thomas Wilson, daughter Sheree (Loren) Dye of Califon, NJ, Son Rick Berka of Phoenix, AZ, and Tom’s children, Stanley (Joan) Wilson, Tanya (Dale) Dixon and grandchildren all from the Detroit area.   

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, William and Martha Bierkchenk, husband, Dean Berka, her son, Mark Berka, her Brothers, Edwin and Roy Bierschenk, her sisters, Lois Scoles and Marion Borg, a niece, Karen Sensor.
