Vera Caroline (Kloft) Banowetz, 86, of Cedar Rapids, died peacefully on Thursday, February 9, 2017.A visitation will be held 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., on Wednesday, February 15, 2017, at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, Chapel of Memories. Funeral mass will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, February 16, 2017, at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids.  Interment will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Maquoketa.

Vera was born on November 1, 1930, in Jackson County, near Springbrook, Iowa, to John and Mary Jacobs Kloft. She grew up on a farm east of Springbrook. On June 30, 1953, she married Norbert M. Banowetz at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Bellevue. To this union four children were born.

Vera was employed as a federal worker for twenty-one years before retiring in 1989, as a Secretary at the Social Security Administration in Cedar Rapids. Vera and Norbert were members of several dance clubs. They traveled many years with local bands entertaining as featured dancers at nursing homes and festivals.

Vera will be missed by her husband, Norbert; two sons, Mark (Kathleen) Banowetz of Ely; Kevin (Julie) Banowetz of O’Fallon, Missouri; one daughter, Nancy (Greg) Wymore of Cedar Rapids; nine grandchildren; one step-grandchild, five great grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Sharon Flesher, three sisters, Rosina Kieffer, Alma Banowetz and Evelyn Medinger, three brothers, Clarence, Alan and Donald Kloft.
