V. Maxine (Still) Benson, 95, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Living Center West in Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church: 1363 First Ave SW, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
V. Maxine (Still) Benson was born September 6, 1921 in Newton, Iowa the daughter to Roy and Gladys (McWhinney) Still. Maxine graduated from Newton High School and worked at the Maytag office. She married John Benson on August 26, 1945 in Newton, Iowa. After moving to Cedar Rapids she worked for the Cedar Rapids School district as an elementary school secretary for 18 years. Maxine was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church since 1947. She was active in Home Missionary and Mary Martha Guild. Maxine volunteered at Mercy Hospital Gift Shop and enjoyed painting as a member of Creative Artists.
Maxine is survived by a daughter, Jane Jiroutek of Cedar Rapids and a son, Scott ( Donna) Benson of Marion; three grandchildren, Amy Wyss of Georgia; Kari Drymon (Jerry) of Nebraska; and Dustin (Rachael) Wyss of Georgia; and four great grandchildren, Dylan Wyss, Shae, Avery and Gabrielle Drymon.
Preceded in death by her parents, husband John (Jack) Benson and two brothers and two sisters.
The family would like to thank the staff at Living Center West for their loving care of Maxine for the past 4 years.
