Memorial

Richard “Dick” Franks, 76, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Monday, February 13, 2017 at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.  Visitation will be held from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.  

Richard was born December 17, 1940 in Iowa City to Thomas and Francis (McLain) Franks.  He worked as a truck driver for most of his career.  He was united in marriage to Jane Parker Tesar on February 14, 1988 in Las Vegas.

Richard enjoyed road trips, visiting casinos, and playing cards, but his number one love and passion was fishing.  He enjoyed spending time with his family, and was well-known as a jokester.  He loved to watch sports, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes.  He will be missed by those who loved him.

Richard is survived by his wife, Jane; daughter Becky Franks (Wayne) of Cedar Rapids; step-daughters Dorothy DelValle of Connecticut and Donna Williams of Fairfax; three grandsons: Adam (Jessica) Pilcher, Brendon DelValle, and Cynric Williams; brothers Jerry (Gwen) Franks of Arizona and Ronnie (Melanie) Franks of Cedar Rapids; as well as several extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Richard “Rick” Franks in 1999, brothers Robert and Jack Franks, and his beloved shih tzu, Boomer.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the Mercy medical/dialysis staff and physicians who assisted Richard for their care and compassion.
