Mary was born May 4, 1923, the daughter of Ralph and Emma (Lukemaier) Robinson, in Clarence, Iowa. The eighth of twelve children, Mary graduated from Tipton High School in 1941. She attended Northwestern Bible College in Minneapolis, and then worked in Akron, Ohio prior to moving Cedar Rapids. Mary was married to Ray Bennett on September 30, 1941 at the Presbyterian Church in Marion. She was a member of Maranatha Bible Church and an employee of Sears for twenty-six years. Mary and Ray loved to travel, camp, and cheer for the Chicago Cubs. She will be remembered for her love of God, her strong faith, her cheerful spirit and radiant smile, and her signature cinnamon rolls and homemade ice cream. Mary’s favorite Bible passage was Psalm 121.

Survivors include her son, David (Christine) Bennett of Itasca, Illinois; two daughters, Joan (Rick) Shultz of Des Moines; Sarah (James) Hedrick of Wilmington, Delaware; four grandchildren, Michael and Jenna Shultz of Ames, Jamie Hedrick of Wilmington, Delaware, Marisa Hedrick of Newark, Delaware; and two sisters, Helen Fankhauser of Iowa City, and Virginia Bena of Strawberry Point.

She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-five years; son, Mark Bennett; granddaughter, Rebecca Jane Shultz; parents; four brothers, and five sisters.

The family expressed their deep appreciation for the kind and loving care Mary received from the staff of Parkridge Specialty Care and Care Initiatives Hospice.

It was Mary’s wish that memorial contributions be made to Maranatha Bible Church or a faith-based charity.
