Dear Ms. Handler, Imagine, finding your own father’s obituary on a google search 2 ½ years after he died. Or maybe, think if it was one of your son’s obituary… Really and truly think and feel it. I’ll make this simple and direct. Please explain… explain it all to me. I do know you are aware of exactly what this question means and the depth of it as well. If you choose to ignore this one basic fundamental question, know I am my father’s daughter. His intellect was indeed inherited by his one and only child. I do have a great deal of intelligence but also am endowed with deep compassion and a defined knowledge of what is right and wrong. I emotionally and logically need an answer and will do all that I can to produce one. I do exist and have for 54 years...literally an entire lifetime before Janice Handler. No amount of self denial will change this fact. My father chose to ignore the actual facts of his life and choices – he was married, created a child and close relationships he, himself consciously and deliberately nurtured, tended and participated in. Until, abruptly after 21 years he chose to start over an untruthful life. No amount of time, denial or deletion can change the absolute fact that I am his daughter and that I am here in this world because he made me. Gerald Delaplane Barker does have a daughter and she is alive. He has grandsons that are in this world. We all do exist – Just saying, thinking and perpetuating the lie that we do not doesn’t make his fabrication true. This one thing, this one HUGE devastating lie makes everything in his life – even his relationship with you and your sons – less than noteworthy. A life of lies is a life not really lived in any way – a life that leaves nothing behind. A life that made no difference in any way. So, please honor me with the respect I deserve – explain to me the “why” of all of it. Make my father’s life at least noteworthy to my own. Sincerely and Respectfully, Lori Barker King 701 W Swann Ave Tampa, Florida 33606
