Timothy Robert Blumer, 71, our loving husband, dad, and grandpa was suddenly called home to his Heavenly Father on Sunday, September 25, 2016.

He was born on August 26, 1945, in LuVerne, IA, which he considered an idyllic place to grow up.  Tim had many hobbies and interests.  At the age of 10, he developed a love of ham radio, which continued throughout his life.  He was also an avid lifelong reader, which started in high school when he read every book in the school library.  Tim ran track and helped the team capture a state championship title.  He also enjoyed a variety of jobs growing up in LuVerne, including his paper route, working at the newspaper, and working as a mechanic.

He went to Iowa State University and graduated in 1967.  On June 15th, 1969 he married Sheri Ramus in LuVerne.  His professional career involved jobs at the Ames Lab, Globe Machinery in Des Moines and Cedar Rapids, and Rockwell Collins, where he retired from in 2008 after 30 years with the company.

Tim was very active in his church and enjoyed the home bible study group that he and Sheri have been a part of for 33 years.  He loved music, most notably attending the symphony, organ concerts with his brother, and music from the 1950’s.  Tim also attended draft horse sales and was very handy around the house.  He could fix anything and used those skills at home and to help others.  Following the flood of 2008, he worked tirelessly to help people recover from the flood.  He then proceeded to help found KHB and invest in historical renovations of flooded buildings in downtown Cedar Rapids.

Tim was loyal to a fault.  He was loved by many and touched countless lives.  As a husband, he was lifelong friends with his wife, Sheri, from the age of 5.  He was her partner, protector, provider, and best friend.  As a father, he attended countless recitals, concerts, violin lessons, and sporting events.  He always helped with homework and was there for his daughters in any way they needed him.  He supported them in everything they did and always knew the right thing to say.  Once they married, he enjoyed having two sons in his life as well.  He loved being a grandpa and playing with his 3 grandchildren.  He also loved spending time with his buddy, Bailey, his 12-year-old Shih Tzu.

Tim enjoyed taking trips with his family.  They went on many lake house vacations, which started in 2010 and became an annual event.  They also took 2 European trips together – Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic in 2004, and Norway and Ireland in 2012.  During the 2012 trip he enjoyed visiting 3 different countries on his 67th birthday all in the same day- Ireland, England and Norway.

Tim is survived by his wife, Sheri, of 47 years, daughters Amy (Dave) Kapler of Cedar Rapids, Alison (Leony) Kaster of Cedar Rapids, brother David Blumer of Ames, sister Jackie Kapustynski of Mason City, grandchildren Andrew Kapler and Peyton and Harper Kaster, and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Tim was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Rosetta, and Sheri’s parents, Bert and Lucille.

A visitation will be held on September 28th, from 4-7 pm at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.  Services will be held on Thursday, September 29th at 11 am at Zion Lutheran of Hiawatha.  Burial will be on Friday at the LuVerne City Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to Zion Lutheran Church of Hiawatha, Lutheran Family Services, or Lutheran Bible Translators.
