Loren McAllister passed from this life and into the Lord’s presence on November 23rd at St. Luke’s Living Center in Cedar Rapids. Funeral Service: 11:00 am Saturday, November 26, 2016 at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Burial: Waveland Cemetery in Prairie City following the service. 

He was born in Burlington, Iowa on July 21, 1926, the son of Walter and Margaret (Marshall) McAllister. 

Loren was a life-long member of the VFW disabled veterans association. He also belonged to the American Legion the Marion chapter. Loren served as part of the U.S. Army’s 6th Division during World War II. He held the rank of Private 1st Class and fought in several engagements. He was injured during the Battle of the Bulge and received the Purple Heart.

Loren began his farming career at 23 in Gilman, Iowa and continued to farm for more than 40 years. He farmed in Des Moines, Benton and Linn counties. Loren raised cattle and grain. He also had a career with the Burlington Northern Railroad, for 25 years where he worked as a clerk.

Loren was a devoted member of the 1st United Methodist Church of Marion Iowa. He supported that ministry throughout his life.

Loren is survived by his wife, Nina Jean Mayer; sister, Joyce Van Wyk; three nieces; and several other loved ones. 

He was preceded in death by his parents.
