John P. Trachta, 61, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Thursday, December 1, 2016, at the Mercy Oldorf  Hospice House in Hiawatha. 

A funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m., on Tuesday, December 6, 2016, Cedar Memorial Funeral Home, Chapel of Memories. A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., on Monday December 5th at the Chapel of Memories Stateroom.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

John was born on January 29, 1955, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to William and Nadine Swan Trachta. He was raised in Cedar Rapids and graduated from J.F. Kennedy High school with the class of 1973. 

In December of 2002, he married Terrie Schmikey and the couple made their home in Cedar Rapids. 

John held may jobs throughout his life and called himself a jack of all trades.

John was an avid fishermen and was nicked named “Walleye John”, by his friends due to his numerous catches of his big fish. He adored his family, He loved the outdoors. He also enjoyed watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, Minnesota Vikings and the Chicago Cubs. 

Those left to cherish John’s memory and his famous quote “Every Day is a Beautiful Day”, are his wife, Terrie Trachta; daughter, Aimee (Joseph) Heck; son, Adam Trachta and his fiancé Megan; stepdaughter, Cally (Steve) Moore; step-son, Josh Havlik; step-grandsons, Tylar and Austin; brothers, Dennis, Tom and Mike; and many friends as well as his 2 chocolate labs Woody and Charley and 4 exotic cats.

He is preceded in death by his parents.
