Memorial

Kathy Ann Fernandez, 53, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Saturday, August 20, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 29, 2016 at 11am at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Visitation will be held from 10am-11am at the Chapel of Memories.  Burial will take place following the funeral at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Kathy was born on March 25, 1963 in Cedar Rapids to David J. Fernandez III and Eva Wright-Hessenius.  She graduated from Ogden School for the Blind and Deaf in Ogden, Utah where she was Valedictorian.  She later graduated from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Seminary. Kathy was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, she was their primary school grade Sunday school teacher.

Kathy is survived by her parents, David (Karen) and Eva; her twin sister, Penny Baier; brother David Fernandez, IV; half-siblings: Michael, Delana, Hattie, and Jonathan; step-siblings Shawn, Ryan, Sterling, and Jason Wright, numerous other step-brothers and sisters; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews; and best friends Steve and Trent.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents Fred and Goldie Mittan; step-grandfather Clarence Wright; step-fathers Jack Wright and Elmer Hessenius, Jr; her Uncle Bob, step-brother Jonny Hessenius III, step-sister Rebecca VanRiper and half brother, Jack Roy Wright Jr.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family.
