Oliver Peary Bonesteel, 83, Formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday April 20, 2016 in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday April 30, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, where a visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m. Interment will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. James Magarhan will officiate. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Marguerite, his sons; James (Malinda) Bonesteel of Reidsville, North Carolina and Stephen (Donna) Bonesteel of Newton, New Jersey, his sisters, Marjorie Nearmyer of Shellsburg, Iowa and Daisy Roehr of Marion, Iowa and his sisters-in-law, Beverly (Dale) Hedgecoth of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Marilyn Bonesteel of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, three grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, John and Robert Bonesteel and sisters; Ila Lambert, Ruth Olson and Mary Jean Parizek.
Oliver was born December 6, 1932 in Shellsburg, Iowa, the son of Vesta and Katie (Weisert) Bonesteel. He married Marguerite Davis on February 20, 1958 in Kansas City, Missouri. Oliver was retired from Manitowoc Crane Company (formally GROVE). He was of the Baptist faith, a Gidean and hospital volunteer. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and traveling to historic places. Oliver served with the Army Corp of Engineers during the Korean War as a heavy equipment mechanic.
