Dale lived in Cedar Rapids for most of his life and attended Arthur and Franklin schools.  In the early days of WWII he taught Radio Code to Navy and Army preflight cadets at Coe College until the military draft pulled him into service. He enlisted in the Navy in 1944 and served for 16 months.  He graduated from Coe College in 1947 and the University of Iowa college of Medicine in 1951 and he completed a residency in Anesthesia at the University of Iowa College of Medicine.  He served again as a Medical Officer in the Navy from August 1952 through August of 1954 in the Korean conflict.  He practiced Anesthesia in Cedar Rapids.  He was active in the Linn County Medical Society and the staffs of both St Luke’s and Mercy Hospitals.

Dale D Morgan and Louise F Fernow were married on June 16, 1951 at the First Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids.
Dale served as an anesthesiologist aboard the Hospital Ship HOPE for two months in the fall of 1966 in Nicaragua.  He also taught for two months in Zambia, Africa, for the American Society of Anesthesiologists in 1990 and 1991.  Both Louise and Dale worked together for 17 months in 2-3 month segments for the US Public Health Service/Bureau of Indian Affairs during the period of 1992-1997.  Dale provided relief anesthesia coverage at a small 50 bed hospital in the Navajo and Hopi Indian Reservations.  During his retirement, he also taught anesthesiology to medical students, residents, and fellows in the Anesthesia Simulator Center at the University of Iowa College of Medicine.  He has been a life-long supporter of the University of Iowa College of Medicine, Iowa State, and Coe College.

Dale has served both as a Deacon and Elder for Westminster Presbyterian Church and was a devoted member of the church choir.  His life-long hobby was Amateur Radio, with the call letters WØDJV.   Dale was first licensed in 1938, earning an Extra Class license, becoming one the youngest radio operators in Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents.  Left to cherish Dale’s memory is his wife of 64 years Louise Morgan, children Sarah (Jerry Snead) Morgan, and Betsy (Eric Rohman) Morgan.  We wish to thank the compassionate care givers from Home Instead, especially Michelle Brown, and Cottage Grove Place and all his doctors and nurses for their loving care of Dale.
