Gerald R. “Jerry” Johnson, 81, of Cedar Rapids died Friday September 18, 2015 at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City. Services at 10:30 AM on Tuesday at Stonebridge Church. Rev. Jason Poling will officiate. There will also be a Celebration of Life Service from 4:30 to 7:30 PM on Tuesday at Penguins Comedy Club. Burial with military rites at the Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 8 PM on Monday.
Survivors include his children, Jeffrey (Erin) of Fairfax, Jill (Michael) Gilhooly of Cedar Rapids, James (Tania) of Cedar Rapids and Kelly Roseberry and her fiancé Trent Sigwarth of Center Point. He is also survived by two granddaughters Kai and Piper Johnson and four grandsons Adam Robbins, Easton Roseberry and Cameron and Andrew Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Virginia.
Jerry was born on June 28, 1934 in Iowa City the son of Charles and Elva Gerber Johnson. He married Marilyn Johnston, they were later divorced. He later married Virginia Kay Kilpatrick on December 7, 1973 in Cedar Rapids, Virginia passed away in 1988.
Jerry was an insurance agent for Prudential and retired from there after many years of service. He later worked at Pip Printing, Guaranty Bank, and Penguins Comedy Club.
Jerry was a faithful attendee of Stonebridge Church and proudly served in the Army in Germany. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing, the Hawkeyes, jazz music, Penguins Comedy Club, and going to his grandchildren’s activities. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him. He will be greatly missed.
A memorial fund has been established in Jerry’s name.
