Emil L. Novak, 99, of Amana passed away on October 11, 2015 at Colonial Manor in Amana, Iowa.   A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories.  Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 am at the chapel.  Private family inurnment will be held at Cedar Memorial Cemetery. 

Emil L. Novak was born March 11, 1916, on a farm south of Fairfax, Iowa, the son of Emil C. and Mary (Cuhel) Novak.  He attended public schools and Iowa State University.  Emil farmed in Linn and Johnson counties for several years.  After that he moved to Southwest Missouri for several years; where he engaged in ranching and ran a business dealing with bus transportation, news depot, gift shop, and restaurant.  After returning to Linn County in 1970 Emil spent the rest of his time until retirement working as a realtor.  Proudly retiring from Tommy Tucker agency in 1993.

Emil served 3 terms as Linn Co. Representative in Ia. Legislature from 1953-1958.  Emil was active in the Republican Party and Farm Bureau.  He was also a 50 year member of Consistory, Eastern Star, 32nd degree Mason and El Kahir Shrine. Emil was also a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by Evelyn, his wife of 56 years; son, Maury (Elaine) of Charleston, S.C.; son, Craig (Julie) of Cedar Rapids; IA.; daughter Sharon Veit of Amana, IA; grandchildren, Laura Novak, Pam Staheli, Jeff Domanski, Taleah McNabb, Mallorie Klotzbach, Susan Huff, and Joe Veit; 11 great grandchildren; a sister, Leona Samek, Cedar Rapids, IA; nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Preceded in death by parents, Emil C. and Mary Novak; first wife, Martha; daughter-in-law, Jane Novak; son-in-law, Ed Veit; brother-in-law, Leo Samek, Charles and Wayne Schwab.
