John M. Cuthbertson, 92, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Friday, November 27, 2015 at St. Luke’s Hospital.

A funeral service celebrating John’s life will be held at 10:30 am Friday, December 4, 2015 at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories with the Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer and Chaplain Kay Mineck officiating. Burial with military rites will be held in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 pm Thursday at the funeral home. 

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Betty; son, Bruce Cuthbertson of Vancouver, WA; daughter, Leslye (John) Ginther of Burnsville, MN; grandchildren, Lauren, J.J. (Joseph) and Bobby Ginther; sisters-in-law, Maxine Cuthbertson of Washington State and Stella Mae Easker of Cedar Rapids; several nephews and cousins; special friends, Denise Behmer and Jean Hachey.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Bob and DeWayne, and brother-in-law Charles F. Easker.

John Merwyn Cuthbertson was born November 21, 1923 in Toledo, Iowa, the son of Merwyn B. and Florence (Cooper) Cuthbertson. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the 804th Ordnance Company, 104th Infantry (Timberwolf) Division, U.S. Army. On February 7, 1948, he married Betty Steffenson in Marion, Iowa. John worked as a supervisor at Iowa Electric for many years until retiring. He was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Marion American Legion Post #298, former board member and treasurer of the Light Company Employee’s Credit Union (24 years), former board member and treasurer of the Cedar Rapids Community Concert Association (40 years), and a member of the Congenial 100 Dance Club. John enjoyed photography and computers, loved music, golfing while they wintered in Scottsdale, AZ, working with Hertz Farm Management and especially enjoyed being a handyman.  His smile and enthusiasm will be missed by all.

The family would like to thank all of the Unity Point/St. Luke’s and Meth-Wick staff for the compassionate care given to John.
