Memorial

Dennis L. Akers, 70, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, June 14, 2015 at St. Luke’s Hospital.  Memorial services will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, June 19, 2015 at Bethany Lutheran Church officiated by Rev. Mike Erickson.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, beginning at 9:30 AM at the church.  Entombment will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Mausoleum.  

He is survived by his three children Damon (Lana) Akers of Kansas City, MO; Kaimee (John) Kuper of Cedar Rapids; Kinsey Marcella of Maple Grove, MN; special friend, Nadine Wax of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren; Kalissa and Karley Marcella, Alexandra and Nickolas Akers and BreeAnn Dechant; siblings; Scott Akers of Cedar Rapids; Kathy Hartgrave of Bella Vista, Arkansas; Phil Akers of Holt, MO; and his Parents; Charles and Barbara Akers of Cedar Rapids.

Dennis Akers was born May 03, 1945 in Belle Plaine, Iowa to Charles and Barbara (Lillis) Akers.  He graduated from Mount Vernon High School with the class of 1964.  Dennis graduated from Dubuque University in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He was married January 25, 1969 in Mount Vernon, Iowa to Jacklyn Wolrab; they later separated.   Dennis was employed as a Logistics Specialist at Stutsman Logistics, Inc.  

Dennis enjoyed golfing, fishing and spending time with his family and friends.  He was a member of the Cedar Rapids Elks Lodge #251 and Bethany Lutheran Church.  Dennis was a loving father, grandfather, son and friend to many. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.   

The Akers family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff at St. Luke’s Hospital and ManorCare for all the love and care they showed to Dennis.
