Janetann Courcelle, 90, of Cedar Rapids peacefully passed away surrounded by her family on Wednesday, July 15. 2015 at Ed and Joan Hemphill Hospice unit, St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Janetann was born May 16, 1925 in Fort Dodge, IA. She was the daughter of Albert and Genevieve Kallanrud. She grew up in Fort Dodge, IA and graduated from Corpus Christi Academy in 1942. Then went on to attend the University of Iowa.

Janetann’s career began in Washington D.C. at the Secretary of the Navy Office where she was assigned to the Navy Personnel Classification Department. While in Washington she met and was united in marriage to U. S. Marine Raider David A. Courcelle, on November 30, 1944 at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Albany, NY. Following WWII, she worked in the Department of Army Signal Corp office and numerous divisions within the Department of the Navy. Returning back to Iowa in the early in the early 50’s she and David settled in Marshalltown. There she worked for Soil Conservation. In 1954, she made a transfer to Cedar Rapids to work in the Navy’s Administration office. After 45 years of continuous government service, she retired from the Defense Contract Administrative Office, as a Contract Administrator.

Surviving to honor her beautiful memories are her daughter Jodie A. Courcelle of Cedar Rapids, Iowa her 4 grandchildren, Jeremy Courcelle, Jillian, Johnathan Wenzel of Cedar Rapids, Jamie Cormier and husband Johnathan of Ladera Ranch, CA, and 6 great grandchildren along with her brother in Law Ralph Courcelle and wife Camille of Albany N.Y. Robert Ross and wife June of Rutland Vermont and nieces and nephews. 

She is preceded in death by her husband, David of 68 years, her parents and a brother George.

Known to her family as Mums, she was a beautiful, strong and intelligent woman. She lived a truly fulfilled life, she took pride in her career accomplishments and held her family in the highest regard. She loved her shopping trips to Seifert’s, Armstrong’s and Lindale Mall. She enjoyed a warm cup of tea and with a sweet treat. A member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, NARFE, NCMA and a past member of ABWA. Mums will forever be in our hearts as a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Ed and Joan Hemphill Hospice Unit and the doctors and nurses at St. Luke’s hospital, Cedar Rapids, IA, for the wonderful compassion and care they all showed for Mums.

Services will be: Funeral Mass: 10am, Wednesday, July 29 at St Pius X Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by Father Phil Thompson.
