Vinton J. “Red” Margretz, 88, of Hiawatha, IA, died Sunday, January 18, 2015 at Living Center East in Cedar Rapids.

Funeral services with military rites: 2:00 pm Thursday, January 22, 2015 at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories with Cedar Memorial Celebrant Paula Meyer officiating.
Entombment will be in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 pm Thursday at the chapel.

Survivors include his wife, Tamae; daughter, Genevieve Margretz of Texas; sister, Wilma Kibler of Hiawatha; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Paul, four sisters, Wanda Cook,
Joan Tank, Jane Morris and Norma Taylor.

Vinton was born April 23, 1926 in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Glenn and Pauline Craft Margretz. He married Tamae Kimura on October 14, 1979 in Reno, NV. He served in the US Navy during World War II and the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of V.F.W. Post #788 and Local Union No. 447. He worked for Broulik Conts. As a painter for many years. In his younger years he enjoyed drawing and working with woodcrafts.
