LaVerna M. J. Hanson, 94, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died January 16, 2015. Services: 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church by the Rev. David Renfro. Burial: cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

LaVerna was born September 30, 1920 in Rural Schleswig, Iowa, the daughter of Frederich Hansohn and Bertha C. Johannsen Hansohn. She married Darrell December 26, 1947 in Dubuque, Iowa. Survivors include a sister, Leatrice J. Bean and brother-in-law, Clyde Bean and nephews and nieces. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, and sisters, Lorraine B. Queen and Lois E. DeVoss and brother-in-law, Ray Hanson and sister-in-law, Arlene Hanson.

She attended Denison, Iowa and Cedar Rapids Public Schools, attended Coe College and Kirkwood Community College. She retired from Killian’s in 1982 when they closed. She was office manager and assistant secretary of Killian’s. She worked at Killian’s 35 years. She then operated a general accounting office in her home serving Jones Parking Company as secretary-treasurer of the company and Cedar Valley Asphalt Inc. 

LaVerna was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, American Business Women-Seven-In-one Chapter, Senior Advocates, American Legion Auxiliary #5, Killian Alumni, Witwer Senior Citizens, National Czech-Slovak Museum & Library, and a volunteer reader for Van Buran School for several years. 

Instead of Flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church & School, Linn County Humane Society or St. Luke’s Hospice.
