Walter W. Badger, 92, of Cedar Rapids died February 25, at Cottage Grove Place. Services will be held at First Congregational United Church of Christ on Saturday, March 7, beginning at 11am. Reverend Janice Springer will officiate. Visitation will be from 4-7 on Friday, March 6, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. 

Survivors include his wife Evelyn, daughter: Nancy Donnelly (Tom), of Cedar Rapids, daughter-in-law: Sally Badger of Winnetka, Il, three grandsons: Sean (Kellyn) Donnelly of Westerville, OH, Ryan Donnelly of Cedar Rapids, Dr. Colin Donnelly (Bridget) of Baltimore, MD, granddaughter: Sara Badger Hartley (Bob) Savannah, GA, five great grandchildren: Maura, Tommy and Bridget Donnelly of Westerville, Annie and Patrick Hartley of Savannah.

Walt was preceded in death by his parents, son, Mark and granddaughter Carrie Badger.

He was born on April 16, 1922 in Chicago, IL to Walter M. and Frances Badger. Walt graduated from Austin High School in Chicago, and Cornell College in Mt Vernon, IA. 
Walter and Evelyn were married August 19, 1944 in Lisbon, IA and celebrated 70 years of marriage in 2014. He served as Supply and Dispersing Officer on the attack transport, U.S.S. Bowie in the Pacific, during World War II. After the war he returned to Cedar Rapids and joined the accounting firm of McGladery, Hanson and Dunn Co. now known as McGladery. He retired after serving as partner for many of the 36 years he worked there.
He was a member of the First Congregational Church for 68 years, a member of Mizpah Lodge #639 Consistory and El Kahir Shrine, Noon Lions Club and served as a treasurer of numerous organizations.

Upon retirement he and Evelyn wintered in Sanibel and Ft Meyers FL, for 25 years. He enjoyed playing golf and bridge with new friends in Florida as well as those in Cedar Rapids. He also enjoyed travel and took many trips and cruises throughout the world. His greatest joy was time spent with his family, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed in Walt’s name to First Congregational Church at 361 17th St. SE, Red Cross at 6300 Rockwell DR. NE and Hospice of Mercy at 701 10th Street SE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52403

The family would like to thank the dedicated staff at Cottage Grove Place for their compassionate care of Walt for the past four years. They also wish to thank Hospice of Mercy for their care and support.
