Thomas “Papa Tom” Eugene McNamara, 66, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha.  A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 10th, 2015 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.  A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, December 11, 2015 at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories.  Certified Celebrant Dr. Jim Coyle will officiate.

Tom is survived by his loving wife, Carol McNamara of Cedar Rapids; three daughters, Erin (David Ankney) of Cedar Rapids; Sara (Jim) Edge of Jacksonville, NC; Alison McNamara of Cedar Rapids; his parents, Eugene and Alma McNamara of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren, Ian Huff, Olivia Huff and Devon Ankney of Cedar Rapids; Madison (Ricky House) Edge of Wilmington, NC; Seamus Edge of Jacksonville, NC; Dylan McNamara of Cedar Rapids; three great-grandchildren, Saylor, Cooper and Avery of Wilmington, NC; three sisters, Julie (Gary) Mann of Tennessee; Jan (Jeff) Smith and Susan (Tom) Krejci both of Cedar Rapids; two brother-in-laws, Lyle Mowery of League City, Texas; Clarence (Janette) Mowery of Cedar Rapids; sister-in-law, Pat (Larry) Petty of Central City, IA; many loving nieces, nephews, dear friends; and his special companions his dogs, Angel, Cujo and Merry. 

Tom was proceeded in death by mother-in-law, Dorothy Mowery and his grandparents. 

Tom McNamara was born on May 29, 1949 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa the son of Eugene and Alma (Hamer) McNamara.   Tom worked from the age of 16 at McNamara Oil eventually buying the business from his parents.  In 2010 Tom sold the business to Hovden Oil Company and retired in July of 2015. He married Carol Ann Mowery on September 13, 1969 in Cedar Rapids.  Together they shared 46 wonderful years.  

Tom was nurturing, innovative, honorable, and loving. He enjoyed the Iowa Hawkeyes, drag racing, fixing cars and especially spending time with his grandchildren.   “Papa Tom” will be remembered as a loving son, husband, father, brother, grandpa and friend to many. 

The family would like to thank all the wonderful staff from Mercy Hospice and The Ghosh Center for their love, support and tender care given to Tom.
