A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 pm Sunday, October 12, 2014 at Calvin Sinclair Presbyterian Church with Rev. Will Jackson officiating.  Please join family and friends to share memories and a “cuppa.”  Private burial will be held in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Survivors include her daughter, Karen Guse and her special friend, Don Hedlund of Cedar Rapids and his children and their families; her “favorite” granddaughter Carey (Joe) Snitker of Marion; her much loved grandsons, Connor, Cody and Cole Snitker, all of Marion; and her special and faithful companion, Little Cat.  She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Harry Guse, in 1981.

Joyce Guse was born August 30, 1921 in London, England, the daughter of Charles and Mary Ann Wood Gilbert. She served in the British Army during WWII, and was discharged with rank of Sargent. She travelled to the US on the Ile de France.  On January 11, 1947 she married Harry Guse in Hampton, Iowa. She worked several places, including the Chamber of Commerce, and retired from the Boy Scouts of America office.  She volunteered, was on the Board, and returned shortly to the workforce for Aging Services.  Joyce was a member of Calvin Sinclair Presbyterian Church. She will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her.

Joyce’s love for animals began with her enrollment in The Junior Division of the R.S.P.C.A. in her early school years in the UK.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her name may be sent to Friends of the Animals, 320 W 6th St, Tipton, IA 52772.
