Gladys Elaine Anthony, 94, of Cedar Rapids, passed away, Monday, September 1, 2014 at the Cottage Grove Place-The Oaks Health Center, Cedar Rapids.

Visitation celebrating Glady’s life will be held from 4-6 pm Thursday, September 4, 2014 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at Noon on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at the Oak Hill Cemetery, rural Tiskilwa, IL. 

Survivors include her brother, Dr. Russell H. (Shirley) Anthony; nieces, Cheryl Green, Donna (Dr. Michael) Puk; nephews, Mark (Margie) Anthony and Ross Anthony; great nieces and nephews, Jennifer Harris, Marcus Anthony, Marcia Anthony, Natalie Anthony, Erica Puk, John Puk, Haley Puk and Daniel Puk; great great niece Sierra Harris.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister and brother-in-law, Eleanor and Rudy Krivacek, brothers, Clifford and Edward Anthony.

Gladys Elaine Anthony was born to Harold and Cora (Miller) Anthony on November 18, 1919 in Tiskilwa, Illinois. She graduated from Tiskilwa High School and then the University of Iowa. After college, she moved to River Forest, Illinois where she worked for Harris Trust & Savings in Chicago for 39 years. Gladys was very active in the Eastern Star of Illinois Chapter 529 and served as worthy matron in 1993 and 2000. She was also a member of the White Shrine, Chapter 49, Illinois. After retiring, she moved to Cottage Grove Place to be nearer to family. She was a member of P.E.O. Chapter II, enjoyed all types of hands on work, including needle point, reading and playing cards. 

She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, for she was special.

The family would also like to thank Cottage Grove Health Center, especially the nurses and aides for taking such good care of Gladys and to make her last few days as pleasant as possible.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in her name to Cottage Grove Place or St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.
