Arnold George Vontalge, age 83, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, September 27, 2014 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha.

A graveside committal service with military honors will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday, October 2, 2014 at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 5:00 until 8:00 PM.

Arnold is survived by his wife, Donna of Cedar Rapids; three children: Teresa (Dennis) Plowman of Cedar Rapids; Robert (Tracey) Vontalge of Center Point; and Julie (Michael) Schroeder of Swansea, Illinois; eight grandchildren: Carrie Meeks, Harley and Justin Plowman; Shawn and Sheila Vontalge; as well as Britain, Brannon, and Brenna Schroeder; four great-grandchildren; brother Don Vontalge of Wadena; sister Ila Lee (Charlie) Corkery of Manchester; and his extended family at Paddy O’Rourk’s Pub.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Irma, and his step-father Lee Totman.

Arnold was born November 17, 1930 in Manchester, Iowa to Edward Vontalge and Irma Brockmeyer.  After graduating from high school, Arnie joined the United States Army where he served honorably during the Korean War.  He was united in marriage to Donna Mae Finley on March 5, 1955.

Arnie was a member of the American Legion and the VFW.  He enjoyed fishing, and mushroom hunting.  He loved hanging out with his friends at Paddy O’Rourk’s and especially enjoyed pull tabs and playing video machines.
