Alberta June Begley, age 84, of Marion, passed away Monday, September 1, 2014 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy following a massive stroke.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, September 4, 2014 at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories officiated by Pastor Chad Jennings.  Visitation will take place from 4:00 until 7:00 PM Wednesday at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.  Interment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. 

Alberta “Bertie” was born June 1, 1930 to Ernest and Ada (Wells) Paul in Center Point, Iowa.  She was united in marriage to James Edward Begley on June 11, 1950 in rural Center Point.  She was a devoted homemaker, worked in kitchens for most of her life including at Crestview in Marion, and retired in 1995 from Rockwell Collins cafeteria.

She was a member of Christ Community United Methodist Church.  Bertie was a member of the Red Hat Society, the Lions Club, and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Bertie found great joy in decorating hats, and had a significant collection.  She was also an avid baker, whose pies, cookie bars, and peanut clusters will be sorely missed.  

She is survived by her husband of sixty-four years, Eddie Begley; sons Sam (Linda) of Concord, California; Dan (Sue) of Cedar Rapids; Tim (Eliza) of Brownsville, Texas; Paul (Betty) of Wilton, Iowa; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister Kate DeSotel of Central City; and brother Everett (Ann) Paul of Georgia.

She was preceded in death by her parents Ernest and Ada Paul; brothers Robert, Gerald, Darwin, Ernie, and Ted Paul; infant brothers Merle and Melvin; half-brother Roger Paul; brothers-in-law Robert DeSotel and Richard Austin Begley; and sisters-in-law Albia and Norma Paul, and Darlene (Delford) Johnson; granddaughter Elizabeth June Begley.
