Glenn E. Bys, age 90, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, October 9, 2014 at ManorCare Health Services.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, October 13, 2014 at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories.  Visitation will be held from 2:00 until 4:00 PM Sunday afternoon at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, and from 10:00 until 11:00 AM Monday morning at the chapel.  Entombment with military honors will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. 

Glenn is survived by his wife, Eva; four sons: Gerald (Chris) Bys of Cedar Rapids; James (Diane) Bys of Marion; Austin (Lynne) Bys of Davenport; and Franklin (Cindy) Bys of North Liberty; fourteen grandchildren: Jeremy Bys; Travis Bys; Megan (Josh) Rike; Sarah (Stephen) McCowen; Matthew Bys; Angela Bys; Gregory Bys; Andrew (Jess) Bys; Michael (Katie) Bys; Kailey and Daniel Bys; and Ashley, Allison, and Ryan Bys; eight great-grandchildren: Marissa and Landon Bys; Lexi Rike; Finn McCowen; Aidan, Ashlynne, Austin, and Hudson Bys; brother Ivan Bys of Oklahoma; sister Leona Sandersfeld of Arizona; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Glenn was born February 14, 1924 in Fairfax, Iowa to Frank and Esther (Vavra) Bys.  After graduating from high school, he received his certification from drafting school.  Glenn served honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War.  After his military service, he was united in marriage to Eva S. Mead on June 28, 1953 in Manchester, Iowa.

Glenn worked as a draftsman for Iowa Manufacturing until his retirement in 1986.  He was a member of First Congregational Church in Cedar Rapids.  He was a proud member of Masonic Lodge #165 in Manchester and the Order of the Eastern Star, Cedar Rapids Chapter.  He was a Past Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star in 1998 and again in 2003.  As a young man, Glenn was a member of the Rural Youth, where he met his wife Eva.

Glenn liked to garden and fish.  He enjoyed bowling, walking the Lindale Mall, and going out to eat at the Spring House.  He especially loved to watch his grandkids participate in events.
