Donald V. Dlouhy 83, of Cedar Rapids passed away peacefully October 15, 2014 at his home after a long illness. Services at 11:00 AM on Thursday October 23, 2014 at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories where friends may call after 10:00 AM on Thursday. Military rites and Entombment at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Nancy, three daughters Terrye (Mike) Pic, Jacquelyn (Dean) Paul, Deann (Chad) Hertz and his 2 brothers Frank and Eugene. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and his dog Molly. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Lillian Serbousek, and two brothers, Leonard and Leo.  

Don was born on September 12, 1931 in Fairfax the son of Emil and Helen Earsa Dlouhy. He married Nancy J. Breidert on April 29, 1954 in Cedar Rapids.   

Don was a foreman at Iowa Electric and retired from there after more than 35 years in 1991. He was a member of the Kenwood Park United Methodist Church, Marion American Legion Post 298, I.B.E.W. local 204, and proudly served in the Army during the Korean War.  

He enjoyed bowling (including bowling a 300 game), golf, going to the casino and building and flying radio controlled planes. 

His greatest joy was the time spent with his many friends and beloved family. His memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him. He will be greatly missed.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to the C.O.P.D. Foundation, The Veteran Honor Flights or to Kenwood Park United Methodist Church. 

The family would like to thank the staff at Hospice of Mercy for their compassion and loving attention given to Donald and his family. The family would also like to thank Dr. Suraj Bopanna and staff at the Mercy Pulmonology Clinic for their loving care of Donald.
