Memorial

On October 11, 2014, Allan “Al” D. Kane, life-long resident of Cedar Rapids, died at St. Luke's Hospital.  A private family ceremony was held at Cedar Memorial per his wishes.

He was born April 17, 1941 to Alva “Al” Kane and Hazel Gillespie. He attended Arthur Grade School, Franklin High School, and was one of the first classes to graduate from Washington High School. He was in the Warrior Class of 1959 and just attended his 55th high school reunion last month that he truly enjoyed!

After graduating from Washington High School, he attended the University of Iowa where he became a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. From there he attended the University of Iowa Law School and graduated with his Juris Doctorate in Law. Al met his wife, Martha Giese, at the University of Iowa and later married September 6, 1966. He worked at the Law Office of Nelson & Fassler before venturing out and having his own law practice at the Executive Plaza for many years, where he met many life-long friends.

Al is survived by his wife, Martha, his only daughter Stacey Gianforte, his son-in-law John Gianforte, his grandsons Giuseppe and Vincenzo, his cats, and his dog, all of Cedar Rapids.

Al was proud to be a Cedar Rapidian and enjoyed watching the Hawkeyes, walking his dog, discussing religion and politics, flying his airplane, attending family sporting events, giving advice, and being involved in the lives of his grandsons – his pride and joy!

Al will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and pets. His memories, stories, and advice will always be treasured.

Thank you to the caring nurses, doctors, and staff at St. Luke's Hospital.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Al's name to the Cedar Valley Humane Society or Washington High School Athletic Department.
