Dick was born on August 4, 1924, in Cedar Rapids to John and Anna Sundberg.  He attended Dairydale Elementary and McKinley High School.  He enlisted in the U.S. Navy from 1942-1946.  Following the war, he attended Upper Iowa University and graduated from University of Iowa in 1951 with a Fine Arts degree.  He went onto work for Collins Radio Company as a Technical Illustrator.  There he met Jean Eberhardt and they were married July 25, 1953 at The First Methodist Church in Albert Lea, MN.  Dick retired from Collins after 37 years.

He was a charter member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids where he was active in their Boy Scout Troop.  Dick liked fast-pitch softball and pitched in the local industrial league and later in the church league.  He was an enthusiastic volunteer at the Green Square Meals program for many years.  Throughout his life he enjoyed, camping, fishing, hunting and working around the house.  His love of the outdoors continued into his late eighties with long walks and fishing at Indian Creek.  Dick was an avid painter in multiple mediums.  The flat rocks he brought home from the creek became the canvases for many of his painted scenes. Per his wishes he will be cremated.

Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is assisting with the arrangements.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM on Monday, December 1, 2014 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Marion followed by a luncheon.  Pastor Perry Fruhling will officiate.  A visitation will begin at 10 AM at the church.
