Ty L. Smith, 70, of Cedar Rapids died Wednesday July 23, 2014 at St. Luke’s Hospital. Services at 3:00 PM on Monday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Entombment in the Cedar Memorial Park Mausoleum. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 2 to 4 PM on Sunday
Survivors include a son Kris and his fiancé Tiffany of St. Augustine, Florida, a daughter Tawnya (John) Monnier of Jacksonville, Florida; his mother Dorothy of Cedar Rapids, and a sister Sheri (Jeff) Jackson of Marion. He is also survived by two grandchildren Jakob and Lauryn; a niece Lauren and a nephew Matthew. He was preceded in death by his father and his beloved dog Chewy.
Ty was born on March 30 1944 in Champaign, Illinois the son of Erdis and Dorothy Smith. He graduated from Jefferson High School and the University of Iowa. Ty worked at Rockwell-Collins and retired from there after 36 years of service.
Ty enjoyed photography, astronomy, biking, the outdoor and especially the family fishing trips to the boundary waters. He also had great respect and love of all animals. He was a very caring and kind man who enjoyed time spent with his friends and beloved family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
