Memorial

Jeanette J. Meeks, age 93, passed away peacefully at the Monticello Nursing and Rehab Center in Monticello, Iowa on July 26, 2014.
 
Service will be held at 1:00pm Monday August 11, 2014 at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Visitation will begin at Noon at the Chapel. Burial will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
 
Jeanette is survived by her son, Howard (Sandy) Meeks of Polk City, Iowa; her daughter, Barbara (Jerry) Rickard of Mason City, Iowa; Grandchildren, Brain Meeks of Martelle, Iowa, Julie Stein of Alpharetta, GA, Mike (Deb) Rickard of Mason City, Iowa, Steve Rickard of Cody, Wyoming; 5 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She is also survived by her cousin, Robert (Sara) McNeil of Portland, Oregon, who grew up in the same home with her. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Donald Meeks, her parents and twin brother, George.
 
Jeanette was born on June 11, 1921 and adopted 2 years later by Logan and Grace Heiserman from Wellman, Iowa where she grew up. On September 27, 1947 she married Donald Meeks and adopted his 2 children. They spent much of their married life on the family farm near Martelle and after retirement moved to Martelle. She became a hairdresser in 1958 and owned Jeanette’s Beauty Salon in Martelle for many years. She was very active as a 4-H leader and served on the 4-H County Committee of Jones County. She was a member of the Martelle Methodist Church and the Pythian Sisters. Jeanette enjoyed traveling and took many trips to Hawaii.
