Susie Borsheim, 74, of Hiawatha, passed to her reward in Heaven on Thursday, December 11, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following a lifelong battle with heart disease and an array of complications.  Visitation will be held on Monday, December 15 from 4 to 7 pm at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Services will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 AM at First Assembly of God with Pastor Rick Gail officiating.  Burial will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Merton Borsheim, her son Charles B. Borsheim and daughter, Jone (David) Poppe of rural Central City.  Her youngest daughter Luann Slaymaker preceded her in death in 2008, leaving Susie two very precious grandsons, Elijah and Aaron Slaymaker.

Susie Ann Cannon was born February 18, 1940 at Cedar Rapids to Dovie Angeline Hogan Cannon and Earl Grant Cannon, both who have preceded her in death.  She spent much time in her formative years living with her father’s sister Josephine Young who was a second mother to her.  She was married to Merton Borsheim, March 11, 1961 at Decorah, Iowa.  The young couple farmed there until 1965 when they moved to the Cedar Rapids area.  They moved to Hiawatha in 1971 and have raised their family and developed lifelong relationships with many wonderful neighbors over the many years.  Susie was a member of First Assembly of God, where she enjoyed the love and support of her church.

She is also survived by an older sister, Arlene Geisking and her younger brother Jim Cannon both of Cedar Rapids.  She was preceded in death by sisters Merle Griffin, Betty Jo Drinkall and Dovie Punke.  She also leaves behind a multitude of loving nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

In spite of her physical limitations Susie was able to invest a lot of time and love into her two grandsons.  They were what kept her going until the very last.

The family would like to thank Dr. Abha Saxena, the DaVita Dialysis Center for their excellent support the past few months.  We would also like to thank the Mercy Medical Center team for their work and support her last few days.  In addition we would like to thank extended family members who were by our side in the final days

Susie will be greatly missed as a loving wife, mother, Nana, sister, aunt and friend to all who knew her.
