F. Mae Ferguson, 97, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Monday, August 18, 2014 at Heritage Care Center.

A funeral service celebrating Mae’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 21, 2014 at the Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel with Rev. David Renfro officiating.  Burial will be held in Dunkard Cemetery, Midway, IA.   Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel on Wednesday August 20th, 2014.
 
Survivors include daughter, Deb (Tom) Fine of Cedar Rapids; Grandchildren, Jason (Traci) Fine, Shelby (Kirk) Pfalzgraf, Joe Fine, and Jera Fine (Josh Allen); Great Grandchildren, Cameron Seltrecht, Dylan Fine, Jacob and Kyle Pfalzgraf, Ayla Fine, Jaelyn and Gabby Allen; Sister, Ruth Mortland, Sister-in-law, Mary Claire Doonan and many nieces and nephews.  

She was preceded in death by her husband John Ferguson; parents John and Flora Doonan; sisters Celia Hartz and Jane Nelson, brothers, John Lee and Clarence Doonan; sister-in-law Frances Doonan; brothers-in-law Clifford Mortland, Glen Hartz and Lloyd Nelson; and a nephew Allen Nelson.     

Mae was born September 20, 1916 in Brookeborough, Ireland, the daughter of John and Flora (Howe) Doonan. She came to Ellis Island with her parents and sister, Jane in 1919.  Mae married John Ferguson on August 24, 1935 in Galena, IL.  He passed in 1981.  She was employed by the Kresge’s Dime Store for several years and later at May’s Drug Store.  She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church.  Mae was very proud of her Irish heritage and enjoyed embroidering, gardening, cooking and most of all spending time with her family and grandchildren.    

The Fine/Ferguson family would like to thank the staff at Heritage Care Center, Milestone Health Center and Care Initiatives Hospice for the wonderful care given to Mae.
