 David W. Engle, 57, of Cedar Rapids and Ft. Myers, FL died Saturday August 16, 2014 surrounded by his family at St Luke’s Hospital.   Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Thursday at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Hiawatha.  Entombment will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.  Friends may call at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton from 4-8 PM on Wednesday with a prayer vigil beginning at 7PM.  A Celebration of Dave’s Life will be held at Elmcrest Country Club after the private family entombment.

Surviving Dave are his wife Maureen, daughter Melissa Barnhill of Cedar Rapids, son Luke Engle (Gabriela) Engle of Ft. Myers FL and Kristen (Ted) McNichol of Johnston Iowa.  He is also survived by his grandchildren Olivia, Brookelyn and Stella Barnhill of Cedar Rapids, brother: Dan (Janet) of Marion, sister Sue of Marion and parents Wayne and Shirley Engle, in addition to many nieces and nephews and families.   Dave was preceded in death by his brother Doug.

Dave was born October 1, 1956 in Cedar Rapids and attended Cedar Rapids and Linn Mar schools.  He graduated from the University of Northern Iowa where he competed as a gymnast before joining his family’s business, The ESCO Group, most recently serving as Chairman.

Dave mentored numerous young entrepreneurs and was involved in many community organizations including Hillcrest Family Services, Jane Boyd Community Center, Mt. Mercy University and Four Oaks.  He was an active member and leader of various electrical and automation trade organizations.

Dave was an avid golfer and longtime member of Elmcrest Country Club, but above all Dave was a wonderful friend, husband, son, brother, father and “Papa” whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.

The Dave Engle Memorial Fund has been established to honor the community organizations that Dave was involved with.
