John R. “Jack” Zimmerman, age 89, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at Living Center West after a lengthy illness.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church officiated by Rev. Phil Jorgensen. The family will receive friends 5-7:00 PM Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Jack was born November 30, 1924 in Olin, Iowa to Milo and Sophie (Dirks) Zimmerman. He owned Marion Circulation Business until his retirement in 1995.
He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, and was previously a member of the Sunrise Optimist Club.
Jack is survived by son Greg (Rosemary) Zimmerman of Iowa City; son Mark (Pam) Zimmerman of Cedar Rapids; granddaughter Cheryl (Lukas) Jordan of Las Vegas, Nevada; grandson Bret Zimmerman of China; great-granddaughter Peyton Jordan, and one great-grandson expected in June; as well as sister Ellie Paulson of Monticello.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Velma in 1997; four brothers and five sisters.
The family would like to encourage donations in Jack’s memory be made to the American Cancer Society in lieu of sending flowers.
